Upon recently completing her eligibility at Southern Methodist University (SMU), Alicia Froling has signed to play with the Bendigo Spirit for the 2019-202 WNBL season.

Having had a stellar career in the US, Alicia looks to continue her aggressive output here in Australia. Froling was an impactful player at SMU, averaging 10.3 points, 9 rebounds (3.7 offensive), 1.3 assists, 1.8 blocks per game, all while shooting an incredible 51% from the floor.

With the season coming closer into sight, Head Coach Tracy York was happy to say, “We are really excited to have Alicia commit to our program and look forward to the season ahead with her. Alicia is a former Australian junior player with the U17 and U19 Women’s Sapphires and Gems programs and has recently returned home from her college career with the Southern Methodist University, where she ranked 1st in career rebounds, blocks and double-doubles and 3rd in career points. We look forward to Alicia joining the Bendigo Spirit.”

Making a return home to Australia is always exciting for Australian athletes who have been competing overseas. Alicia was happy to say, “I’m super excited to be joining the Bendigo Spirit! The decision was an easy one to make as Tracy has recruited a great team and I have only heard great things about her as a coach. I am looking forward to playing in Bendigo and cannot wait until the WNBL season starts!”

Alicia is the twin sister of Bendigo familiar, Keely Froling, who is currently playing for the Canberra Nationals in NSW’s Waratah league and Canberra Capitals WNBL team. Both sisters have been named in this year’s Emerging Opals World University games team, held in Italy next month.

Froling has already made an impact in the Queensland Basketball League for the Townsville Flames. Averaging 8.2 points, 12.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.1 blocks per game, as well as shooting 55% from the floor. Alicia has also posted an incredible 5 double-doubles out of 9 games played. The Townsville Flames take on the Gold Coast Rollers on Saturday night at home, tipping off at 6:30pm.
