Kia Nurse set to GO BIG with the Capitals

The University of Canberra Capitals are proud to announce the signing of Canadian international guard Kia Nurse for the 2018-19 WNBL season.

Nurse, 22, joins the side with some pedigree as a back-to-back NCAA champion and Olympian amongst a swathe of career plaudits.

Just this weekend Nurse collected 20 points in her first career start for WNBA side New York Liberty, after smashing records as a reserve player with an impressive 34-point performance against the Indiana Fever.

A breakthrough player, enjoying her first year as a professional with the Liberty, Nurse originally had planned for a foray in the European leagues but a last-minute pitch from coach Paul Goriss, saw the Canadian head down under for a stint with the Capitals.

Nurse will wrap up her commitments with the Liberty before heading into camp with the Canadian Women’s Basketball Team for the upcoming World Championships.

The one-year deal sees Nurse join new signing Hannah Young, and opals Leilani Mitchell, Kelsey Griffin and Leilani Mitchell.

The Capitals have not been shy about their ambition for the 2018-19 WNBL season and Nurse echoes the team’s sentiments, believing the group has every chance for success.

“I’m incredibly excited to get over to Australia and join the UC Capitals for the WNBL season,” Nurse said.

“I believe this is the perfect place to be starting my overseas playing career.

“I think we have a team capable of competing for a WNBL championship and I’m excited to be a part of that.”
