Adelaide Lightning return to the Port
Adelaide Lightning are bringing WNBL back to the local South Australian associations, with their first pre-season clash scheduled this Friday night at Port Adelaide Stadium.
The new-look 2018-19 Adelaide Lightning squad will officially assemble for the first time at Port Adelaide, to take on the Sydney Uni Flames.
Adelaide Lightning General Manager, Reece Turner, is pleased to bring elite women’s basketball back to the Port.
“We have really enjoyed working with Basketball SA and the West Adelaide Bearcats to make this game possible.
“The club has decided to make the game free to attend, to ensure all fans can have a chance to see this country’s best female basketball players in action.”
The game is a great chance for local fans to catch a glimpse of South Australian, Nicole Seekamp, who returns to Lightning for her second-consecutive season and third overall year at the club.
The Commonwealth Games Gold-Medallist, while also be joined by her Opals’ teammate, Stephanie Blicavs, who will make her debut in Lightning colours on Friday night.
The dual-championship winner joins Lightning following a stand-out three seasons with the Dandenong Rangers, where she won their Most Valuable Player Award two-years running.
Fans can also enjoy some international flavour, with the WNBA’s Nia Coffey also making her debut for Lightning, as well as Silver Fern, Penina Davidson.
Familiar faces will also be back for Lightning in the pre-season clash, with Lauren Nicholson, Colleen Planeta, Aimie Clydesdale and Chelsea Brook returning.
Adelaide Lightning tip off against the Sydney Uni Flames at 7.45pm at Port Adelaide Stadium. Admission is free, so bring the family down to enjoy basketball at the elite level.
