ADELAIDE LIGHTNING SIGN GUARD ABBY CUBILLO
Adelaide Lightning is thrilled to announce the signing of Guard, Abby Cubillo to the roster for the upcoming 2022/23 Season.
Heading into her fifth WNBL season, Cubillo is excited to join the Adelaide Lightning under the new leadership of Head Coach Nat Hurst.
“After spending the last four seasons with the UC Capitals I am excited to make the move to Adelaide. Nat is putting together an exciting team and I am thrilled to be joining players like Steph Talbot and Commonwealth Games 3×3 bronze medallists Lauren Mansfield and Marena Whittle.”
Head Coach Nat Hurst cannot wait to see Abby develop her game in Lightning colours, “I’m extremely excited we were able to recruit Abby to Adelaide. She has a lot to offer and is a key part of the group we are putting together. She is a hard worker, a natural leader, and an even better teammate”.
Cubillo, a proud Indigenous woman from the Larrakia people in Darwin, Northern Territory is known for her skills on the court and the incredible work she does within the community.
Adelaide Lightning General Manager, Tim Brenton said that Cubillo is integral for the brand of basketball Nat and the Lightning will play this season, “Nat is one of Abby’s biggest fans on and off the basketball court, so we are excited to watch her develop under the new leadership. We are also looking forward to experiencing her positive impact on young girls and women within the community”.
The Centre of Excellence Graduate is enjoying a stellar NBL1 season with the Brisbane Capitals averaging 18 points, 6 assist and 6 rebounds per game.
Season 2022-23 of the WNBL will commence on November 3, 2022.
