October 16, 2020 | Adelaide Lightning news

At just 24 years of age, the Korweinguboora sharp shooter is ready to take on a much larger role for the Adelaide Lightning this coming summer. Read all about our latest recruit, Abbey Wehrung.

The Adelaide Lightning are close to finalising the roster for the condensed 2020 WNBL season with the latest signing in former Bendigo Spirit player, Abbey Wehrung. Wehrung has also been involved with the Canberra Capitals where she made her debut in 2014. The 24-year-old, 5’10” guard from Korweinguboora, Victoria is ready to provide the scoring punch for the Lightning in the absence of some key players from the previous season. “I think it’s a really good opportunity and a versatile team to be a part of. I’m excited about bringing some aggression offensively and defensively to this group at both ends of the court,” Wehrung said.

Wehrung played for the Spirit in the WNBL last season averaging 10.9 points with 2.9 rebounds and shot the three ball at 44.6 percent. She wants to add to the Lightning’s depth at both ends of the floor and gain some consistency in her game. “Defensively I want to be a stopper and add to the team’s already solid recruiting in this area,” Wehrung declared about her playing style.

The Adelaide Lightning are close to completing their ten-player roster with more announcements about changes and the WNBL approved development players to come.
