12 November 2019 | Bendigo Spirit news

This past Saturday night, the Spirit travelled to Titanium Security Arena for their back-to-back clash against the Adelaide Lightning.

Having beaten the Lightning in round 4 by 15 points, it was not the same case for their round 5 match up.

The Lightning came out firing, setting the pace for the entire game. The home team taking the lead with 28 points, to the Spirit’s 18 at the end of the first quarter.

“They lead from start to finish and we struggled to contain them, our defensive effort just wasn’t strong enough.” Coach York said.

Unfortunately for the Spirit this did not change for the rest of the game, going down by 17 heading into the half time break.

With the eventual margin being pushed out to 105-77, with the final point margin being 28 points.

Coach York indicated that defence would be the main focus of training this week before the league break.

“We will definitely be looking at that closely, we need a lot of individuals to improve in defensive areas” Coach York said.

“There will be a few concentrated efforts this week at out training sessions and then we will be back on deck and back at it next Monday.” York said.

The Spirit will be back at home on November 24th for their Family Day. Tipping off at 2:00pm against the Melbourne Boomers.
