Bendigo Spirit Keep Development in Sight

9 August 2019 | Bendigo Spirit news

The Bendigo Spirit are excited to announce the signing of two promising young athletes, Isabella Stratford and Kasey Burton to development contracts for the 2019-2020 Chemist Warehouse WNBL season.

Isabella Stratford is an impressive guard coming out of the South Australian ranks. Still in the junior pathways, Stratford has represented South Australia in U16s, bottom and top age U18s and has been named an emergency for the U20s side this year.

Stratford played a large role for the Southern Tigers in South Australia’s Premier League, averaging 11 points, 4.8 rebounds and 1.7 assists per game.

Head Coach Tracy York coached Stratford this season and said “Isabella comes to Bendigo after having a break out year in the SA Premier League. At 17 years old she is an athletic taller guard type who is versatile and with great ability to get to the basket. We look forward to Bella continuing to develop her game and be an important part of our squad.”

Kasey Burton, a tall shooting guard from Ballarat, is no stranger to Bendigo and the basketball development pathways that it has in place. Burton was a representative of Victoria Country for U16s, U18s and the Victorian U20s side. Currently representing the Melbourne Tigers in the NBL1, Burton started all 20 games, averaging 9.8 points, 8.2 rebounds and 2.5 assists per game.

“Kasey Burton comes to the Spirit with experience in the Australian junior system and previously as a DP in the WNBL. She brings size and versatility and we are excited for her to join us as a DP this season,” Coach York said of Burton.
