Bendigo Spirit to host TAC Country Roads game in Geelong

Bendigo Spirit is excited to host its next TAC Country Roads game in Geelong this Sunday, January 19, against Geelong United.
Off the back of already holding a successful ‘home away from home’ TAC Country Roads game in Mildura in Round 11, these matches highlight the vital importance of road safety – particularly on country roads – as part of the Spirit’s ongoing partnership with the Transport Accident Commission (TAC).
The TAC has been a Major Partner of the Spirit since the 2022/23 Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) season, with the partnership extending to a four-year collaboration. This initiative underscores a shared commitment to creating safer journeys and connecting with communities across regional Victoria.
Thanks to the TAC’s support, the Spirit has been able to bring WNBL action to regional hubs, including Mildura last weekend and now Geelong. For both games, the team has proudly worn a special ‘Country Roads’ edition playing singlet to raise awareness about road safety and encourage positive driving behaviors in an effort to reduce lives lost on Victorian roads.
Bendigo Spirit General Manager, Dan Jackson, emphasised the importance of the initiative.
“The TAC Country Roads matches are about more than just basketball – they’re about using our platform to deliver a vital message. Many of our players and fans travel these country roads regularly, and we want to ensure everyone gets home safely. We’re incredibly proud to work alongside the TAC to bring this message to life and connect with the amazing community in Geelong.”
In a unique twist, Geelong United will play as the ‘away’ team in their own arena, showcasing the unity and collaboration of regional basketball in promoting the TAC’s message.
Sunday’s match will take place at Geelong Arena, with tip-off at 4pm AEDT.
