The Bendigo Spirit and Perth Lynx are set to clash in a highly anticipated top of the table re-match this Thursday.  Both teams have shown impressive form this season, making this game a must-watch for basketball fans.

Bendigo Spirit

The Bendigo Spirit come into this game with a perfect 9-0 record, showcasing their dominance in the League.  They have been exceptional on both ends of the court, averaging 89.9 points per game while allowing just 74.3 points, ranking them second in offense and first in defence.

Key players for the Spirit include Sami Whitcomb, who has been in stellar form, averaging 23.4 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 4.1 assists per game.  Whitcomb’s shooting accuracy has been remarkable, hitting 52.0% from the field and 46.6% from beyond the arc.  She is well-supported by Marianna Tolo, Casey Samuels and Kelsey Griffin, who adds depth and experience to the squad.

Perth Lynx

The Perth Lynx hold a 7-3 record and are looking to bounce back after a tough loss to the Spirit earlier this month.  They lead the League in scoring, with an average of 91.0 points per game but have shown some defensive vulnerabilities, allowing 81.6 points per game.

Laeticia Amihere has been a standout for the Lynx, contributing 16.9 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game.  Co-captain, Anneli Maley, has also been impressive, averaging a double-double with 13.7 points and 10.4 rebounds per game.  Since returning from injury, Amy Atwell has been a key contributor as well, averaging 12.3 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game and has improved each week.

Previous Encounter

In their previous encounter on December 5, the Bendigo Spirit emerged victorious with a 72-66 win over the Perth Lynx.  Sami Whitcomb led the Spirit with a rare triple-double – 16 points, 13 rebounds and 10 assists – while Laeticia Amihere scored 16 points and grabbed 11 rebounds for the Lynx.  This game was a hard-fought battle, and the Lynx will be eager to even the score.

Key Matchup

The battle between Casey Samuels and Anneli Maley will be one to watch.  Samuels got off to a hot start in season 2024/25, and whilst she has cooled off a bit, she has still been a huge contributor at both ends.  The always-consistent Maley’s work-rate on the glass will go a long way to deciding the outcome.

What to Expect

With both teams in top form, this game is expected to be a high-scoring affair.  The Spirit’s defensive strength will be tested against the Lynx’s potent offence.  The outcome of this game could have significant implications for the standings, with the winner taking a crucial step towards securing a top spot in the League come the end of the season.
