KG the MVP: Griffin wins top Spirit honour
Kelsey Griffin has been crowned Bendigo Spirit’s Most Valuable Player as the team reflected on their 2023-24 WNBL campaign with an awards night on Thursday.
The inspirational Spirit captain was the runaway victor of the MVP award, finishing with 57 votes.
After a delayed start to the season due to injury, Griffin finished as the Spirit’s leader in points per game (15.9), rebounds (7.7) and steals (1.4).
Speedster Ally Wilson was runner-up with 35 votes, just ahead of bench spark turned starter Alicia Froling (27) who rounded out the top-three for the player and coach-voted award.
Froling was a deserving winner of the Breakout Player Award after her valuable contribution across the season, while sharpshooter Abbey Wehrung was awarded the Defensive Player of the Year award.
Both the Breakout Player and DPOY awards were voted on by the coaching staff.
Carly Stones and Simon Nicholson won the Club Person of the Year honour in a nod to their contribution to the Spirit.
