Sami Whitcomb Joins Bendigo Spirit for 2024 WNBL Season
Bendigo Spirit is excited to announce the signing of Sami Whitcomb for the 2024 WNBL season.
At the recent Paris Olympic Games, Whitcomb’s sharp shooting, leadership, and defensive tenacity were pivotal in Australia’s podium finish, where she started every game and played a starring role.
Whitcomb’s fit with Bendigo Spirit is seamless. Known for her high basketball IQ, versatility, and energy on both ends of the floor, she complements the team’s dynamic style. Her presence is set to provide an immediate impact, both as a scorer and a leader, offering invaluable experience to a talented roster aiming for WNBL success.
In joining Bendigo Spirit, Whitcomb will reunite with her Opals teammate Mariana Tolo, strengthening the team’s core with their proven chemistry and international experience. The duo’s Olympic success and leadership promise to raise the Spirit’s performance to new levels this season.
“I am so excited to be joining the Bendigo Spirit. The players and people involved there, what they are building and the awesome community, I’m excited to bring my family and be a part of it. I’m really excited to work with Kelsey in particular, as I’ve always been an admirer of hers.”
Bendigo Spirit GM Daniel Jackson couldn’t believe his luck when he realised getting Sami was a possibility.
“To be honest, I thought it was a long shot the entire time but when it became a reality I couldn’t believe our luck. Adding Sami, someone whom we think is the best guar in the country, to the squad we currently have in place with proven bigs in Kelsey and Marianna, it’s a very exciting time to be a Spirit fan.”
Spirit fans first chance to see Sami in action will be November 2 when the Spirit host the Adelaide Lightning. Memberships and tickets will be available soon.
