Simpson unveiled as Spirit’s 10th player ahead of season opener
Bendigo Spirit is excited to announce Micah Simpson as the team’s 10th contracted player on the eve of the 24/25 Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL) season.
The 21-year-old guard has been rewarded for effort and ongoing commitment to the Spirit program, having joined as a Development Player before the start of the 22/23 season.
Simpson re-signed as a Development Player again this season, before finding out that she would be elevated to the senior list earlier this week.
“It’s really exciting,” the Tasmanian-born player said of her elevation. “Bendigo – both the team and the region – have been so supportive of me and my basketball, so I think it’s really fitting that I’ll get to play my first day as a fully contracted player in front of a home crowd here in Bendigo this weekend.”
Bendigo Spirit head coach, Kennedy Kereama – who also coached Simpson this season as a part of the Ballarat Miners team that contested the NBL 1 South competition – said it was great reward for effort.
“Micah’s work ethic and passion for whatever team she plays for has been evident ever since she joined the Spirit.
“We know that this elevation in contract won’t change the level of effort she’ll bring to the side whatever the role we ask her to play, but we’re thrilled to be able to offer her this well-deserved upgrade.”
The Spirit will get their 24/25 season underway this Saturday, when they take on Adelaide Lightning at Bendigo’s Red Energy Arena.
Tip-off is at 7.30pm AEDT, with tickets currently available via Ticketek.
