Cayla George 350 WNBL Games
Written by Corey Kennedy
Cayla George’s 15th season in the WNBL has been full of accolades and achievements and on Sunday George will have another suiting up for her 350th WNBL game.
“Hearing about all these milestones makes her feel old” George jokes.
“To be able to play basketball as a job for the last two decades has been special for me and to be able to bring up this milestone is quite amazing.”
This season has seen George become the all-time leading rebounder in WNBL history, and climb to fourth all-time in points all after coming off being the MVP last season.
While still taking time to reflect on his outstanding career thus far, George says her focus is on making a final run with the Flames.
“We’ve won four games in a row and starting to build some strong form, I don’t care where in the top four we finish because I know if we make we can make some noise.”
George will play game 350 with long-time teammate and friend Tess Madgen which is not lost on Cayla.
“To play with Tess is always so special to me, we’ve known each other since under 12s and she is like my sister.”
“We’ve played at the Boomers together, the Opals and now the Flames. It’s always such an honour to play with her.”
Flames Coach and longtime friend Guy Molloy says this milestone is a testament to his star.
“It’s an amazing achievement for her, I am so proud to have been able to play even a small part of her journey,” Molloy said.
“She is an inspirational player but also just an inspirational person. Everything she has accomplished is a credit to her”
George will play game 350 against longtime friend Lauren Jackson and the Flyers today in a Thank You game for Jackson.
