October 12, 2018 | WNBL news

With the 2018-19 Championship season finally here, SBS has announced it will be extending its free-to-air coverage of the Chemist Warehouse WNBL from nine to fourteen regular season games.

SBS, partnering with FOX SPORTS, will provide more games directly to fans live on SBS and SBS VICELAND, and streaming via SBS On Demand and sbs.com.au/sport.

Catherine Whelan, acting Executive Producer of Sport at SBS said the network was very excited.

“It is the first time that SBS will air the Chemist Warehouse Women’s National Basketball League and we are very proud to partner with FOX SPORTS who do a fantastic job of producing the games,” Whelan said.

“It’s an opportunity for so many more Australians all over the country to have access to seeing these wonderful athletes in action.”

Tipping off tonight in the Chemist Warehouse “Wellness Round” the Sydney Uni Flames are hosting the University of Canberra Capitals from 7pm AEDT.

The Flames will welcome Chemist Warehouse Australian Opals star Alex Bunton to their line up as the 25-year-old makes her return from injury alongside import Amanda Johnson who will make her debut.

On Saturday, the Adelaide Lightning will travel to Perth to commence their season and face the Perth Lynx. You can watch the game LIVE on FOX SPORTS Australia 503 and SBS live from 3pm AEDT.

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers will take on the Bendigo Bank Spirit at home at the State Basketball Centre, with new recruits and Opals Cayla George, Steph Talbot and Ezi Magbegor joining the Boomers line up in front of a home crowd after their success at the FIBA World Cup.

Round one would not be complete without the 2017-18 Championship banner being unveiled, and the JCU Townsville Fire will have a packed house on Sunday afternoon when they host the Jayco Dandenong Rangers. Fire fans will see the club’s third championship banner unfurled and will be at full voice as legend Suzy Batkovic begins her final Chemist Warehouse WNBL season.
