DEAKIN MELBOURNE BOOMERS HEADED FOR GEELONG ON OCTOBER 13

Liz Cambage has returned home to play for the Deakin Melbourne Boomers in the WNBL and one of the teamÕs first stops this season will be the Geelong Arena on Friday October 13 where they will clash with Bendigo Spirit.

Following a successful return to Geelong last season, the WNBL will again showcase another in-season game, this time though preferring to play the big clash in the second round of the new season.

The Boomers have recruited strongly and will be led into action by international stars Liz Cambage and Jenna OÕHea, while Louella Tomlinson is another prized recruit returning to Melbourne following a decorated career overseas.

Also returning for the Boomers are star guards Maddie Garrick, Britt Smart, Bec Cole and 2016/17 WNBL Rising Star, Monique Conti.

ÒWeÕre really looking forward to returning to Geelong and showcasing the WNBL,Ó said Maddie Garrick, adding ÒThe league looks really good this season, some high calibre players like Liz and Jenna have returned, which is exciting for all the fans.Ó

ÒGeelong is such a strong and passionate basketball community, plus we have a huge contingent of our Deakin University family in the region and no doubt they will be keen to come along and support their team.Ó

Tip-off for the game will be at 7:30pm with a capacity crowd expected to pack the Arena, especially to get a look at Cambage back playing basketball for the first time since the 2016 Rio Olympics where she was the top scorer in the tournament.

ÒWe donÕt expect any tickets to be available at the door on the night, it will be a fully-ticketed event,Ó said Boomers General Manager Justin Nelson.

ÒTickets have gone on sale and we encourage everyone to book their seat quickly. The chance to see Liz in action will be highly sought after this season, itÕs been at least five years since she has played in the WNBL and everyone is excited she is back home playing for MelbourneÕs WNBL team.Ó
