FIXTURE UPDATE: TOWNSVILLE v SOUTHSIDE GAME

On Thursday 25 January Cyclone Kirrily in North Queensland forced the closure of Townsville Airport which resulted in the Townsville Fire and Southside Flyers game, scheduled for Saturday 27 January at 7:30pm (AEST), unable to be played.

The game has now been rescheduled and will be played in Round 15 on Wednesday 21st February 6:00pm AEST. This has resulted in another game also being moved:

Townsville vs Sydney

Was – Wednesday 21st February 6:00pm AEST

Now – Sunday 25th February 3:00pm AEST

All options were explored to play the game, which included parameters around venue availability, athlete and coach availability, and end of season timelines.

The rescheduling will mean the Townsville Fire and Sydney Flames will not be able to attend the WNBL Awards evening on Sunday 25 February. While disappointing for athletes and staff, ensuring all teams finished the competition playing 21 games was the priority.

The league thanks the Townsville Fire, Southside Flyers and Sydney Flames for their flexibility and commitment.

FLYERS VENUE CHANGE – FINAL HOME GAME

Due to redevelopment works at the State Basketball Centre, the show court will not be available for the Southside Flyers final regular season game on Saturday 24 February. This game will now be played at the Melbourne Sports Centre, Parkville. The Flyers consider it the most appropriate venue to cater for Flyers members and supporters.
