June 13, 2020 | WNBL news

The Chemist Warehouse WNBL teams have wrapped up their first week of Free Agency, and there have been some big changes to the rosters. All this information, plus more, can be found through our Chemist Warehouse WNBL Free Agency Player Movements Tracker!

Adelaide Lightning

Arguably one of the biggest signings of the week, Alanna Smith has signed with the Adelaide Lightning for the 2020-21 Season. Smith, the 191cm power forward and Chemist Warehouse Opal, is the first signing for the Lightning in this season of Free Agency.

The Lightning also announced that one of their Australian Opal superstars, Nicole Seekamp will be stepping away from the courts for the 2020-21 season. This news was shared in a letter from Seekamp herself which you can read here.

Will Lightning strike another signing next week?

Bendigo Spirit

The Spirit have welcomed back Demi Skinner and Tessa Lavey to their 20/21 roster.  Joining Skinner and Lavey is 21-year-old Cassidy McLean. The young and talented guard returns after a season break from the WNBL. Keeping the spirit alive, next week may reveal some more names to their roster!

Deakin Melbourne Boomers

Returning for her sixth season, co-captain Maddie Garrick has resigned with the Deakin Melbourne Boomers. Garrick is the sole signing for the Boomers in their first week, but watch this space, there may be some more movement coming soon!

Jayco Southside Flyers

Signed, sealed and delivered…Captain Jenna O’Hea has re-committed to the Jayco Southside Flyers for her second season! O’Hea is the first player to be announced for the Flyers during Free Agency. Looking forward to next week and it’s anyone’s guess who will be joining O’Hea on the Flyers roster!

JCU Townsville Fire

Three-time JCU Townsville Fire premiership player, Mia Murray, has returned to the Fire after taking two seasons off to welcome her baby boy, Sidney. A familiar face in town, Murray enters this season as her eighth for the club! Moving from Bendigo Spirit, Shyla Heal has signed with the Fire for the 20/21 Season! The talented point guard’s relocation is a big move for the 18-year-old, but one that has fans excited! What will next week bring to the Fire?

Perth Lynx

There have been no signings this week for the Perth Lynx but they did announce the new Head Coach for the team… Ryan Petrik! Stay tuned to see if they’ll unveil some names soon!

Sydney Uni Flames

There have been no signings this week for the Sydney Uni Flames. Watch this space!

University of Canberra Capitals

The University of Canberra Capitals wasted no time in resigning some of their premiership players. Joining the Caps for their 20/21 campaign are Marianna Tolo; Kelsey Griffin; Keely Froling; Maddison Rocci; Abby Cubillo, and Alex Delaney. 5’9 Guard, Tahlia Tupaea, will be the new face on the Canberra block, after making the move from the Sydney Uni Flames. It’s been a busy week for the Caps…we cannot wait to see what else is on the cards!

The Chemist Warehouse WNBL would like to wish Gabe Richards (Bendigo Spirit) and Sarah Graham (Sydney Uni Flames) all the best for their future endeavours. Congratulations also to Nat Hurst (Adelaide Lightning), who has retired from playing but announced as the newest Assistant coach with the Lightning!
