Black and gold. Strong and bold.
That is the inspiration behind the striking new Chemist Warehouse WNBL logo celebrating the league’s 40th season anniversary.
This season will mark four decades of the women’s national basketball league, Australia’s longest-running elite women’s sporting competition.
For 40 years, the Chemist Warehouse WNBL has launched female basketballers on to the international stage, developed the best Australian young talent, attracted world-class imports and cemented itself as the second-best women’s basketball league on the planet.
Basketball Australia’s head of women in basketball Lauren Jackson says there’s plenty to celebrate in #WNBL20.
“Our 40th season anniversary logo is incredibly strong and powerful just like the women in our sport.
“Our national league has produced many superstars, globally-elite superstars who have taken on the world and been recognised as some of the best female basketballers ever.
“It’s a golden era for women’s sport in Australia right now and the WNBL has definitely paved the way.
“I’m so proud we are launching our 40th season anniversary logo as the beginning of a very special year.”
The Chemist Warehouse WNBL will celebrate its most successful teams, greatest players and unearth some of the top tales from its history throughout the season.
The #WNBL 20 season will be officially launched on Wednesday September 18 at Old Parliament House in Canberra where members of the Chemist Warehouse Opals and representatives from the league’s eight clubs will be in attendance.
Chemist Warehouse WNBL action gets underway on Friday October 11 when the Adelaide Lighting host Sydney Uni Flames in the season opener.
