MURRAY BRIDGE COMMUNITY NOW HAS ACCESS TO FREE PERIOD PRODUCTS

January 24, 2024 | WNBL news

The Cygnett WNBL, together with Share the Dignity, yesterday (Tuesday 23 January) announced the installation of a Dignity Vending Machine in the Murray Bridge Library in South Australia.

Head of WNBL, Christy Collier-Hill and Share the Dignity CEO, Rochelle Courtenay, were in attendance in Murray Bridge, joined by Adelaide Lightning athletes Izzy Borlase and Taylor Brazel, Basketball SA CEO Tim Brenton, and representatives from the library, local council and Government.

The vending machine funding was achieved through fund raising efforts from the inaugural WNBL Fighting Period Poverty Round last season, which included a significant donation from league naming rights partner, Cygnett.

“These vending machines provide people experiencing period poverty with the dignity they deserve by giving them access to free products, allowing them to deal with their periods in safe and hygienic ways” stated Cygnett Partnerships Manager, Grace Carroll.

“We’re pleased to be supporting people in the Murray Bridge area with the installation of this vending machine and hope that it brings dignity and comfort to those in need.”

The WNBL Fighting Period Poverty Round commences today, with eight games running across the round.

The purpose of the WNBL Fighting Period Poverty Round is to make a difference for those experiencing period poverty (which alarmingly is 1 in 5 Australians) and there’s four easy ways for people to get involved and support the cause:

  1. Donate sanitary products – every game in the round will have Share the Dignity collection boxes and fans are encouraged to bring sanitary items to donate, which will be passed onto those in need, and / or;
  2. Jump online and buy a pair of Bloody Good Socks from Share the Dignity, and / or:
  3. Head over to BOODY and grab a pair of Period or Leak-proof underwear, which until January 31 will be matched by Boody and donated directly to Share the Dignity to be distributed to those in need, and / or;
  4. Grab yourself some tech gear from CYGNETT, where $1 from every online purchase from now to 31 January will be donated to Share the Dignity.
