Round 5 Wrap Up

Round five was entertaining to say the least! We had some absolute battles play out in front of some packed crowds. Here’s some of the highlights.

Jackson’s first double-double since 2015
Lauren Jackson was on fire on Thursday night in Southside’s win over the Lynx. The GOAT could not be stopped! Jackson finished on a double-double for the first time in the WNBL since 2015, with 25 points and 12 rebounds.

Sydney on the board
With both teams yet to get their first win in the books this season, the UC Capitals and Sydney matchup was going to be an important one.

The Flames ignited their season with their first win, with Keely Froling and Shyla Heal starring with 22 points, 16 rebounds and 21 points, six assists respectively.

Griffin put on a performance
Bendigo Spirit continues to impress this season, remaining undefeated after round five, winning their sixth game in a row against Adelaide on Saturday.

Kelsey Griffin continued her superb from this season, racking up 30 points and 10 rebounds, earning her the Cygnett Player of the Round.

Epic point guard battles
You couldn’t look away from the epic battles unfolding between point guards this round.

Steph Reid against Kristy Wallace and then again against Maddy Rocci was entertaining stuff with no player wanting to give an inch with their dogged defence.

Welcome to the WNBL Karlie Samuelson
Townsville’s Karlie Samuelson found her form in a big way, hitting six threes on her way to 26 points against the Flyers in her best performance so far in WNBL23.

Samuelson top scored for the night, with Lauren Nicholson not far behind on 24 points.

Mitchell with another 23 points

Tiffany Mitchell is showing no signs of slowing down, continuing her dominant form for the Melbourne Boomers. Finishing on 23 points, five dimes and four steals in the comeback win of the season so far.

Mitchell leads the league in points per game with an average of 22.2 and earnt a Team of the Week dub once again.
