It’s decided! JCU Townsville Fire and Jayco Southside Flyers will compete for the 2022-23 Cygnett WNBL Championship in a best-of-three Grand Final Series!

After finishing the regular season as Minor Premiers, the Townsville Fire continued their momentum, sweeping Perth Lynx 2-0 in the semi-finals series and earning them the right to host the first game of the Grand Final in front of a home crowd on Saturday, 18 March.
Fire fans have been painting the town orange in the lead-up to Saturday’s blockbuster, with thousands looking forward to the pre-game activations and food stalls before packing into the Fire Pit.
The Fire will take their 14-game winning streak into the Grand Final Series against the Flyers. Southside clinched the Championship opportunity after securing a thrilling one-point win over the Melbourne Boomers at the State Basketball Centre overnight.
Southside will host game 2 of the Grand Final series on Wednesday, 22 March at the State Basketball Centre.
If a Game 3 is required, the action will return to the Fire Pit.
The Flyers and Fire last met in a Grand Final in 2020, where Southside Flyers secured a 99–82 win.
There are a lot of similarities to the 2020 team rosters of both teams, so the 2023 Grand Final Series is expected to be full of highly-competitive entertainment. Southside have not been able to secure a win over the Fire this season, but Finals time, is anyone’s time.
