WNBL Release 24/25 Fixture
The Cygnett WNBL has today unveiled its fixture for the 24-25 season, with Australia’s longest-running elite women’s sporting competition scheduled to tip off its 45th edition on October 30.
Spanning five months from October to March, the season will see several athletes fresh of the Paris Olympics as well as several stars from both home and abroad.
The regular season, which concludes on February 16, will consist of 85 matches as all eight teams play each other three times, while Semi-Finals take centre stage from February 22 followed by the best-of-three Grand Final series to be played on March 5, 9 and 12.
The Cygnett WNBL will once again celebrate and recognise Indigenous Round in Round 4 of the competition from November 20 well as delivering a third Fighting Period Poverty round in Round 12 from January 15.
The season will commence with the WNBL’s newest club Geelong United taking on the Townsville Fire at home with WNBA number 4 pick Jacy Sheldon making her WNBL debut for the Fire as well as the battle of the Froling sisters.
Southside will kick off their championship defence in a Grand Final rematch against Perth which will see the debut of the Lynx big three of Anneli Maley, Amy Atwell and Ally Willson. Marianna Tolo returns to the WNBL with the Bendigo Spirit, who will host the Adelaide Lightning, and see Izzy Borlase and Steph Talbot up against their Opals teammate.
To finish off the round Canberra’s new dynamic duo Jade Melbourne and Nyadiew Puoch face the Flames with star trio Cayla George, Lauren Nicolson and Shanice Swain as well as the returning WNBA star Didi Richards.
In Round 2, Southside will unveil its championship banner against the Flames. While the Caps will return to AIS Arena in a marquee matchup with the Spirit in what will be Marianna Tolo’s return to Canberra.
Ally Wilson returns to Bendigo in Round 8, while Townsville will again hold their annual New Years Eve game against the Spirit in Round 9.
Head of the WNBL, Christy Collier-Hill, said she was delighted to release the 24-25 fixture.
“In unveiling the fixture today, we are excited for the fans to see what the 45th season has to offer, the incredible matchups, the rivalries, the world class players, this season will be special” Collier-Hill said.
“To have Olympians from the Opals and Gangurrus as well as WNBA stars playing, continues to position the WNBL as one of the best leagues in the world.
“Last season was one of the most thrilling in recent memory and with what has transpired over the off-season and the talent this league has I cannot wait for what this season holds.”
Excitingly, the league will feature two ‘games of the round’ this season, with WNBL Wednesday’s on ESPN continuing, and a WNBL Sunday Showcase on 9GO also being added. All other games will be available on Nine’s free digital channel, 9Now.
