UC CAPS VS TOWNSVILLE 📆 Sunday 10th December

Townsville Fire prove to be too good for UC Capitals, who are yet to secure a win this WNBL season

Summary
Concerns arise for the UC Capitals as they continue to remain winless after a tough loss to the Townsville Fire. The Caps had a lot to prove on their home soil as they took on the Fire at the National Convention Centre in Canberra. The Caps were able to stick in it in the first half, however the Fire were able to take control in the back end ending with a score of 84-55.

Townsville showed dominance over the Caps in the second half, with a solid defensive effort ending with 12 steals throughout the game and being able to convert these efforts into countless scoring opportunities.

Whitcomb and Woods displayed solid performances for the Fire in helping them to secure the win. Whitcomb ended the game with 16 points, 5 rebounds and 7 assists. while Woods finished up with 17 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.

ADELAIDE VS PERTH 📆 Sunday 10th December

In an overtime thriller Lynx secures the AWAY win

Summary
In a captivating matchup that lived up to its promise of a high-scoring spectacle, the Lynx emerged triumphant over the Lightning in a thrilling overtime encounter, sealing the win with a final score of 98-95.

The initial half showcased Adelaide’s robust defensive prowess, effectively countering the rapid style of the Lynx, who found themselves trailing by 20 points in the second quarter.

The outstanding effort of Aari McDonald, who delivered a remarkable 35-point performance, and Anneli Maley contributing 22 points, led Perth’s charge. The Lightning trio of Willoughby, Mansfield, and Bourne, each scoring over 20 points, fought valiantly, but to no avail.

Ultimately, the Lynx secured the overtime victory, capping off an intense battle with a final score of 98-95.

SOUTHSIDE VS BENDIGO 📆 Saturday 9th December

Southside Flyers Topple Bendigo Spirit’s Win Streak with Spectacular Victory!

Summary

In a riveting matchup between the Southside Flyers and Bendigo Spirit, the Flyers emerged triumphant with a commanding performance that left the Spirit reeling. The first quarter set the tone as the Flyers surged ahead with a 17-7 lead. In the last second of the first quarter, Rebecca Cole shot a 3-point shot which ignited the crowd as it flew through the hoop becoming the play of the game.

 

The Southside Flyers maintained their dominance in the second quarter with a scoreline of 39-21. By the end of the third quarter, the Flyers had built an insurmountable advantage, leading 63-38. The final buzzer signaled a resounding victory for Southside Flyers, securing a 76-51 win.

 

The Southside Flyers showcased a well-rounded team effort, outclassing the Bendigo Spirit in every aspect of the game. Nyadiew Puoch’s impressive 17 points, coupled with Mercedes Russell’s double-double performance, played pivotal roles in securing the victory.

Summary

Another week of concern for the UC Capitals as the Sydney Flames defeat them in a 2 point win. Winless so far for the season the Capitals young line up show potential only losing the game in the intense last two minutes.

The Sydney Flames coming off a win earlier in the round, won three of the four quarters; only scoring 5 to UC’s 23 in the third, have now a chance for the top four.

The Melbourne Boomers have scored redemption this evening defeating the Perth Lynx 93-62 in Perth. Naz Hillmon of the Melbourne Boomers led the points scoring with 20 points, closely followed by teammate Sara Blicavs with 17.

 

The Boomers captain made her presence on the court known this evening, ending the game with an impressive double-double of 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists earning her the Player of the Game.

Summary

Beginning Round 6 with a two point win, the Sydney Flames defeat the home team Adelaide Lighting 64 – 66 in a close match up. Sydney coming off a bye and Adelaide a loss saw a particularly equal competition; with Sydney sitting at 5th and Adelaide at 7th on the ladder.

 

The game was played in a tug of war style with neither team swinging the score their way. However, it was Sydney’s consistency that won them the game leading the first 3 quarters, leaving Adelaide to make some last-minute advances in the fourth unsuccessfully.
