WNBL24 GRAND FINAL SERIES SET
The Cygnett WNBL Grand Final Series is set, with the Southside Flyers officially joining the Perth Lynx in the Grand Final of the 2023/24 season.
After finishing the season in fourth place, the Perth Lynx swept minor premiers the Townsville Fire 2-0 in the 1v4 semi-finals series, seeing them secure the first place in the Grand Final.
In the 2v3 semi-finals series, it was the Southside Flyers who overcame the Melbourne Boomers in game 3, securing their spot in the Grand Final, and as the highest placed team, earning them the right to host the first game of the Grand Final in front of a home crowd on Sunday 10 March.
To ensure the best experience for fans, and avoid clashes with NBL, the finals fixture has been amended from what was originally shared at the start of the season, and is now confirmed as:
- Game 1 – Sunday 10 March – 3.30pm (AEDT) – Melbourne Sports Centres Parkville
- Game 2 – Thursday 14 March – 6.30pm (AWST) – Bendat Basketball Centre
- Game 3 (if required) – Sunday 17 March – Time TBC – Melbourne Sports Centres Parkville
Note: Game 3 time is TBC due to NBL Grand Final also being on same day. We are working with the NBL to ensure we avoid a time clash, and will advise as soon as confirmed.
Head of WNBL Christy Collier-Hill said she is looking forward to capping off a great 2023/24 season with the Grand Final Series.
“The 2023/24 season really has been outstanding. In the final round of the regular season there were still six teams who could make the top four, meaning the evenness and overall quality of the competition this season was just exceptional.
This Grand Final between the Perth Lynx and the Southside Flyers will showcase some of best female basketballers in the world – right here on our doorstep.
I implore basketball and sports fans in Melbourne and Perth to get down to the games, and for everyone else, make sure you tune in on ESPN.”
The 2023-24 Grand Final Series will be broadcast on ESPN via Kayo and Foxtel in Australia. As part of the league’s Finals partnerships with broadcasters ESPN, Unbeaten and the WNBA App, the Championship games will be available to watch in more than 100 countries.
Tickets for Games 1 and 2 of the Cygnett WNBL Grand Final will go on sale tomorrow, and will be available at wnbl.basketball/tickets.
