Round 2 Heat Check: Keely Froling
It was a big 2 games across round 2 for the WNBL’s newest side.
With the clubs first ever win on home court, followed by a learning loss in Bendigo, there were a lot of positives looking forward for the rest of the season.
One major positive is the stellar form of Geelong Captain, Keely Froling.
Froling had a big contribution in the clubs inaugural win on Thursday night over Southside, with 18 points and a whopping 14 rebounds. This would then be backed up by a a big effort away in Bendigo, posting 26 points plus another 13 rebounds.
Looking at the current League Leader standings, Keely’s weekend tallies see her now jump to #6 overall in scoring averaging 19.7 points per game, and #3 overall in rebounds, averaging 11.3 per game.
These weekend efforts also earned Keely a spot in the WNBL team of the week, alongside Bendigo’s Sami Whitcomb, Southside’s Bec Cole, sister Alicia in Townsville, and Sydney’s Cayla George.
Big on setting the example for her team, Keely will play a major role as leader of the young Geelong side throughout this season, which is exactly why Head Coach Chris Lucas wanted her on his roster, “Keely’s been on this path before, and one of the reasons I wanted her is her leadership”.
