Round 11 Heat Check: Jaz Shelley

Heat Check Geelong United WNBL Jaz Shelley Basketball
13 January 2025 | Geelong United news

Jaz Shelley has officially arrived!

After a somewhat experimental start to the season in which she played varied starting and off the bench roles, Jaz has become the true definition of someone with the “step up” mentality, after teammates Keely Froling and Mon Conti were recently ruled out due to injury.

In Wednesday night’s clash against Southside, Jaz took her opponents name literally and had a flyer of her own, starring in the 6 point come from behind win with 20 points, 4 rebounds and 7 assists.

Backing that up yesterday on our home floor against Perth, Jaz added another 16 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists to her round 11 tally.

Although yesterday’s result didn’t go our way, Head Coach Chris Lucas couldn’t be prouder of his young star, “I think Jaz has stepped up to the plate as vice captain – She’s now captain on the floor and there’s a lot of positives to take out of it.”

Jaz’s efforts this week have also seen her named not only in the WNBL round 11 team of the week, but also as player of the round.

Up next we’re back on home floor this Friday as we take on the Sydney Flames. Get your tickets to the game here.
