Geelong United team up with Pride Cup

Geelong United Basketball (GUB) is thrilled to be teaming up with Pride Cup to highlight inclusion in sport.
Wednesday January 29 in our WNBL home game against the Bendigo Spirit, Geelong United players will wear a specially designed Pride uniform celebrating the LGBTIQ+ community, in an effort to make sure every person feels included, accepted and proud to be who they are.
A Geelong United driven initiative, the conversation was held amongst the players as to what they would like to highlight if given the opportunity, “We spoke about rounds that we may want to pursue, and Pride Round was a big one,” said Geelong United guard, Gemma Potter. “You never want to do a round where it’s just a token thing, you want to continue to show your support and awareness.”
Presented to GUB CEO, Mark Neeld earlier in the season, the idea of a Pride Round ticked all the boxes of GUB’s values – United, inclusive, professional and integrity. “Anything that is presented to us, the question always is, does it align with our values? This was a no brainer,” Mark said. “We’re proud to be leaders in this space, and hope this game can inspire further conversation and involvement across the league.”
To celebrate this initiative further, signed game worn jerseys will be going up for auction following next Wednesday night’s game.
