Geelong United Club Awards Night

On Tuesday night, Geelong United held it’s first ever awards night to celebrate the efforts our our inaugural team.
A fantastic crowd gathered at the home of A Day On The Green in Victoria, the picturesque Mount Duneed Estate to witness the awards ceremony, which saw star Import Haley Jones take out the inaugural Club MVP award.
“It’s really great to get that respect from the coaches,” Haley said regarding her win. “This whole season has done a lot for me – Confidence on the court, just getting my flow back and feeling like myself on the court again. I think a variety of things are going to help me now transition back into the WNBA.”

Elissa Brett’s outstanding defensive efforts for the season were rewarded, as she received the Defensive Player of the Year award, with Head Coach Chris Lucas praising her “grit and toughness” throughout our inaugural run.
“It’s been a really good experience being my first year in the league,” Brett said. “Just getting that foot in the door, it’s been amazing”

Other award winners included Hannah Hank, who received the Players’ Player Award, which was solely voted on by her teammates to acknowledge the efforts of who the team considered the best all round contributor to the club both on and off the court.

And the final award, the People’s Choice Award which was voted on by the fans, our devoted #BlueCrew, saw Jaz Shelley crowned as the inaugural winner.

And that officially wraps up a stellar first season for Geelong United in the WNBL.
