Ash Karaitiana is back for her second consecutive WNBL season with the Deakin Melbourne Boomers.
New Zealand Sky Sport Tall Fern and Southern District Spartan (NBL1 North), Karaitiana is a standout role model for all women.
Mum to two-year-old Kalea, Karaitiana is passionate about proving women can do anything and professional athletes can successfully continue living their dream if they are committed to adapting and changing to reach a goal.
The Boomers fully supported Karaitiana’s return to the WNBL last year – Kalea travelling with the team for much of the season.
“I’m so grateful that the Club is able to support both myself and my family (once again) this upcoming season.”
“There is a lot to be excited about – the team, the coaching staff, the culture.”
As Karaitiana and her family are based in Queensland and the WNBL look to return to a more regular season format, there were some big decisions to be made in resigning with the Victorian-based Boomers this year.
“Moving interstate temporarily for a season is a big decision, but when I have to consider my daughter as well, it’s basically life-changing.
“However, it is something that Club are helping out with and that is exactly what makes this an easy decision to return and play for the Boomers again.”
After spending her first season with the club in Far North Queensland, Karaitiana is looking forward about coming to play in Melbourne.
“I am excited to return to Melbourne and be able to play in front of our family, friends, and fans.”
“I have some extended family in Melbourne and I haven’t seen them since COVID began, so I am super excited to reunite with them and see them in the crowd at our home games.”
“(Fiancé) Matt will fly down whenever he is available, so it will be awesome having him and Kalea watching and supporting the team!”
