A Birthday and Baby in Big Boomers Week

February 4, 2017 | Melbourne Boomers news
It's been a big week for the Deakin Melbourne Boomers with the WNBL's family club preparing for its 33rd birthday celebrations, whilst also toasting the arrival of Lauren Jackson's first child, Harry. "You could say it has been extremely busy, but for all the right reasons," said Boomers GM Justin Nelson. "The Boomers family was delighted when the news came through that Lauren had given birth and both she and Harry are doing well. It's kind of surreal, but with the Boomers fans having seen Lauren at most of our home games this season it's like we've been there throughout her journey." "In the last couple of days the amount of people who have contacted the club to pass on their best wishes to LJ has been amazing. People have dropped in gifts and cards for Harry at the stadium. There's a lot of love out there for both of them," added Nelson. The celebrations will continue into Sunday's big game against Sydney with the Boomers having already pushed the ladder-leaders in their previous two encounters this season. "It will be a good contest, we have absolutely nothing to lose so I think you will see a very committed and determined Boomers team step on the court," said Nelson, adding "We're expecting another big crowd to help celebrate with us." "Importantly, the game marks our 33rd birthday, which is an incredible milestone. The Boomers are the longest running elite level women's team in any sport, right across Australia. That's something we should be really proud of." To help celebrate, the Boomers will be handing out a free Commemorative 33rd Birthday Poster to the first 1500 fans through the door.
