Boomers Ambassador Bec Allen Still Calls Melbourne Home

September 11, 2017 | Melbourne Boomers news

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers continue to roll out big names as a part of their 8 Ambassadors in 8 Weeks leading into the 2017-18 WNBL season, and the fourth ambassador to be announced is an absolute favourite amongst the Boomers Family.

Rebecca Allen grew up playing her junior basketball at Nunawading, from where she was recruited to the Boomers in the formative years of her WNBL career. From there it didn’t take long for her national and international career to blossom.

Under the guidance of Coach Guy Molloy, Spida, as she is effectionalty now, quickly developed into a leading WNBL player with the Boomers and these days is playing in WNBA with New York Liberty and will soon be suiting up for Lyon in France.

A Melbourne girl through and through, Allen takes every opportunity she can get to visit her favourite city and always catches up with the Boomers when in town.

“Melbourne will always be home for me and the Boomers is where it all started, so I’m really proud to be an ambassador for this great club,” said Allen.

“For me the club, and in particular Guy Molloy, has helped me to get to where I am today. The club itself feels like my second family and is something I will always be incredibly proud to be a part of,” she added.

Joining Michele Timms, Elyse Penaluna and Sam Stynes as ambassadors to be announced thus far, Coach Molloy said he was delighted to hear the Boomers front office has asked Bec and that she had instantly agreed to be one of the club’s eight ambassadors.

“I love every bit about Bec’s determination and commitment to be the best she can, her rise through the Boomers and onto the international stage is something that all of us at the club are really proud of,” said Molloy.

“Bec had a terrific upbringing through the Nunawading program and became an instant fan favourite at Melbourne’s WNBL club, she is a star of the game and we always enjoy seeing her at our games whenever her busy schedule allows.”

“I think having Bec on board as an ambassador highlights to every junior out there that you can reach for the stars and if you work hard at your craft you can reach the top. Bec is a glowing example of that,” added Molloy.
