Boomers Announce Second Ambassador

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers are announcing 8 Ambassadors in 8 WeeksÊleading into the WNBL season with Michele Timms last week named as the first of eight. The second ambassador was a member of the Boomers' 2010/11 Championship-winning team and is a former captain ofÊthe club. In recent seasons injury has forced her to sit out, but her love ofÊthe Boomers andÊinvolvement aroundÊthe club has continued, including a key role atÊthe Melbourne Boomers Girls Academy. Melbourne's WNBL team is pleased to announce Elyse Penaluna as anÊambassador. "I'm really excited to take on the role of an ambassador, it's a great new initiative by the club and it's an honour to be asked," said Elyse. "You hear everyone talk about the Boomers as being a family club and I remember when I first came to the club it was something you really did feel straight away. That whole sense of community, family and being included is just a hallmark of what the Boomers fans for." For Boomers coach Guy Molloy, who has Penaluna on court with him each week atÊthe Melbourne Boomers Girls Academy, the role of being an ambassador is one he sees as a perfect fit. "Elyse lovesÊthe game and she continues to be a big part ofÊthe Boomers family," said Molloy, addingÊ"Even though she has beenÊsidelined through injury in recent times, her passion for what we are doing at the club has never waned and at most games you willÊseeÊElyse with her mum sitting onÊthe sideline supporting the team." Stepping into her new role with the Boomers, Elyse is urging everyone to join the rise of Melbourne's WNBL team. "As an ambassador I want to urge the importance of Melbourne's basketball community to get behind and support Melbourne's WNBL team. Like me, all of the players at the Boomers came from the grassroots level, we all progressed along the player pathway." "For 34 years the Boomers have been in the WNBL and it's just so important Melbourne continues to be represented at the top level." "Even though I'm not out on court with the team I love going to the games, talking to the fans and enjoying the great atmosphere you always have at a Boomers game."
