Boomers Confirm Season-Ending Injury For Courtney Duever
The Deakin Melbourne Boomers have confirmed American Courtney Duever has suffered a torn ACL and will miss the remainder of the WNBL season, her maiden foray into Australia’s top league.
The injury occurred during Melbourne’s win in Canberra on Sunday, casting a sombre mood amongst the group when they were informed of the injury to Duever.
“ACL injuries are all too common in sport, unfortunately despite the best efforts to prevent them,” said Boomers Coach Guy Molloy in breaking the news.
“We are very disappointed for Courtney that she has suffered this injury. The Boomers are all behind her and will provide the best care and attention we can.”
“We wish Courtney all the best in her rehab over the coming months,” Molloy added.
Following two league-leading seasons with the Sunbury Jets in the Big V (Victorian State League), the Texan forward jumped at the chance to step up into the WNBL with the Boomers and had settled in well over the team’s opening four games.
Melbourne’s GM Justin Nelson hasn’t ruled out the possibility of adding another player to the Boomers squad, saying the club “will look at all options, but right now our focus is on supporting Courtney and ensuring she receives the best of care.”
