Boomers Continue To Expand USA Horizons

In what has become an annual educational adventure, the Deakin Melbourne Boomers will continue to build relationships with leading sports organisations across the United States over the coming weeks with a view to advancing its own operations here. Tony Hallam, Chair of the Boomers board, is currently spending time with a number of leading basketball organisations on both the east and west coasts of America, while General Manager Justin Nelson is about to make his annual trip to meet with WNBA clubs and management personnel. "These trips have become an annual part of our focus on improving areas of ourÊbusiness, while also developing important relationships with key basketball and sports stakeholders in the United States," said Nelson. "We work extremely hard to deliver exciting entertainment to every single person who comes to a Boomers game, it's something we value highly and its no secret that much of what we do has been carefully moulded and introduced from some of the things we have learnt abroad." Melbourne's entertainment at games, like Dexter's Conga Line, has become hugely popular with fans. "We're here to entertain people," says GM Justin Nelson. Nelson's upcoming trip will include meetings with the Dallas Wings and New York Liberty, which will also provide him with an opportunity to catch up with former Melbourne Boomers star, Bec Allen. "Everyone at Melbourne is really pleased to see Bec's international career continuing to blossom, she is an outstanding talent and will always have a home here when the time is right for her to return home. Right now though she is carving out a fantastic WNBA and European career and I'm looking forward to seeing her in action," added Nelson. Allen won't be the only Aussie that Nelson will get to see playing in the WNBA. "One of the games I'll attend will feature Phoenix, who we have built a great relationship with over the last few years. That game against the Liberty will see four Australians on the court, which is just a glowing endorsement of our incredibly talented players on the global stage." Both Hallam and Nelson continue to build relationships with particular interest being shown towards marketing, promotion, fan engagement, partner deliverables and membership programs. "Hopefully all of our members and supporters at the Deakin Melbourne Boomers have seen a real focus and success in the way we present our games. We still have a long way to go, but learning and engaging with other sports operations around the world certainly helps to keep us at the pointy end here in the WNBL," added Nelson. In other news, the Boomers are set to announce another new signingÊnext week, though Nelson remained tight-lipped for the moment. "We're really excited about the next announcement we'll be making, which we hope to do next week," said Nelson, adding, "The team is really starting to take shape, it's going to be a great season and we encourage all of our supporters across Melbourne to step up and become members."
