WNBL Match Report

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers and UC Capitals are tied at one game a piece in their best-of-three Chemist Warehouse WNBL Semi-Final series after clutch performances from Boomers stars Ezi Magbegor and Lindsay Allen.

The Boomers poured on the offense early in the first quarter and maintained a comfortable lead throughout the game, shooting 61% from the floor.  Allen led the way with a game-high 25 points and four assists.

She was supported by a very balanced game from this season’s Betty Watson Australian Youth Player of the Year, Ezi Magbegor, who had 17 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and three steals in the victory.

With their backs up against the wall, the Boomers played a physical game, racking up eight blocked shots and out-rebounding the Capitals 45/31 whilst holding them to a 36% FG percentage in the first half.

Kia Nurse and Kelsey Griffin each had 17 points in the Capitals’ losing effort.

Game Three of the 19/20 WNBL Semi-Final series will be played at AIS Arena in Canberra, where the Capitals went 10-1 at home this regular season, on Wednesday, 26 February at 7:30pm (local time).

The winner will advance to the Grand-Final where they will face the number one seeded Jayco Southside Flyers, who will hold home-court advantage in the best of three series.
