Boomers In Action – Weekly Wrap

April 16, 2018 | Melbourne Boomers news

It was all about Commonwealth Games medals over the last week for the Deakin Melbourne Boomers with five players, one coach and one medical staff member winning medals.

In the Bronze Medal game, Kalani Purcell and Guy Molloy celebrated a win as the Tall Ferns won plenty of admirers. The New Zealanders completed a successful campaign and only due to the way the draw panned out probably missed a certain Silver Medal.

With the Opals steamrolling all opponents, it was a golden week for Cayla George, Jenna O’Hea, Ezi Magbegor and Steph Talbot, while team physio Gaylene McKay continued her outstanding role in preparing the players for battle.

Closer to home, Chelsea D’Angelo was again a dominant force for Kilsyth in the SEABL with a 23pt haul to go with 4rbs, 7ast and 3stl in a big win against Frankston.

At the Melbourne Tigers, Monique Conti delivered 20pts, 9rbs, 3ast, 2stl and 2 treys to lead her team to a commanding win against Albury-Wodonga. The dynamic guard looked at home back on the basketball court and looks set for a big season.

In the Big V, Jaz Shelley continued her hot start to the season as she led Southern Peninsula to another win with 21pts, 6rbs, 4ast, 3stl and 3 treys.

And in Western Australia, Ash Grant enjoyed two wins with Lakeside, going for 19pts, 11rbs, 3 blks and 2 treys on Saturday night, before backing up on Sunday with 28pts, 7rbs, 2ast, 3stl, 2blks and 4 treys.
