Box Hill Senior Secondary College Supporting Cup Eve Clash

November 1, 2018 | Melbourne Boomers news

Next Monday night’s Cup Eve Derby will again be proudly presented by Box Hill Senior Secondary College, which is home to one of Melbourne’s most recognised basketball programs.

Led by Kevin Goorjian, Box Hill’s basketball alum is a highly decorated group and is most notable for being home to Australian NBA sensation, Ben Simmons.

Former Boomers guard Bec Ott was also a Box Hill Senior Secondary student, while a number of Boomers development players have also progressed through the successful program.

“It’s fantastic to have Box Hill Senior Secondary College presenting our Cup Eve game once again,” said Boomers GM Justin Nelson, adding, “We have a very close connection with the school that has been built over the last five years. It is a partnership we are extremely proud of.”

A number of students will be attending Monday night’s game and will be involved in numerous activities, including a half-time game between players from the school’s basketball program.

“Whilst Box Hill Senior Secondary College is renowned for basketball, the school is also home to many other sports, the arts, music and so much more,” added Nelson.

The Cup Eve Derby is expected to again attract as many as 3,000 supporters, making it the biggest WNBL game outside of finals.

“It really has become a celebration of women’s basketball, the whole event is very family friendly and a lot of fun. It’s amazing how people come to this game and experience their first taste of WNBL basketball, that interest factor is high and that first experience often leads them to coming back for more.”
