Deakin Melbourne Boomers captain and WNBL Life Member, Cayla George, got the opportunity to celebrate her incredible 300th WNBL game milestone on the weekend in front of her home crowd in Melbourne.

Having officially clocked up her third century the previous round against Adelaide Lightning, away from her Boomers fans in Adelaide, George officially received her commemorative presentation on Saturday evening.

Australian Opal, George, is no stranger to the accolades – having achieved almost too much to mention here, but when asked what the incredible milestone meant to her, George admitted she didn’t dwell for too long on the magnitude of her achievement, but rather the benefits of her time in the WNBL.

“I don’t reflect often enough with what I have been able to achieve in my career to date, but my favourite part is the people I get to meet along the way. Championships are pretty nice too!” said Cayla.

Boomers’ head coach, Guy Molloy, has been part of Cayla’s time in the WNBL for the past four seasons at the club and loves that he has been able to witness her journey up until now.

“Cayla has become arguably the premier post player in the competition over the past 3-4 years,” says Molloy.

“On the court, she plays effectively at both ends. An elite shooter, passer & defender, she is the real glue behind our team. I feel blessed to have been part of her journey.”

“Off the court, she has matured as an individual player and become an exemplary leader and captain of the Boomers.”

“I hope we can finish on the highest note together as captain and coach”.

George, was on fire in Saturday night and led her side to a decisive win over the Canberra Capitals, in front of a home crowd for Indigenous Round.

She walked away the WNBL Player of the Week, with 23 points – at 100% FG – eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals.
