Celebrate Christmas with the Boomers this Sunday

December 11, 2017 | Melbourne Boomers news

All roads lead to the State Basketball Centre this Sunday with the Boomers set to celebrate Christmas in a top-of-the-ladder clash with Perth.

With both teams in form and eager to secure a finals berth, a big crowd is tipped to enjoy an afternoon of WNBL fun at the annual Bertocchi Christmas Game.

It will be the first of two games between the the teams in the space of a week with the Boomers jetting over to Perth the following Saturday (Dec 23) for a return bout. Coach Guy Molloy knows the results of both contests will go a long way to shaping the final ladder.

“It’s a good time of the season to be playing against the best teams. We want to be in form and testing ourselves against other in-form teams, like Perth,” said Molloy.

“Our first game against the Lynx earlier in the season went into overtime, so we are under no illusions as to the importance of this Sunday’s game and how tough it will be.”

Proudly supported by Whitelion, the Boomers are again encouraging families to leave a gift under the Bertocchi Christmas Tree for underprivileged children and in return receive a free junior ticket to the game.

“This is the third year we have asked our Boomers family to leave a gift for underprivileged children and we know our fans will respond kindly, they always do,” said Boomers GM Justin Nelson.

“It’s such a great sight seeing a child leave a gift under the tree for another kid out there. Whitelion does an amazing job in the community helping families and children, especially at this time of the year, and our fans show enormous kindness in supporting our Christmas game.”
