Game preview: Boomers vs Fire

February 24, 2022 | Melbourne Boomers news

The Deakin Melbourne Boomers meet the Townsville Fire for the third time this season in tomorrow night’s must-win clash, at the Boomers home-away-from-home at State Basketball Centre.

Holding at 1-1 win/loss ratio against each other, both teams always deliver an intense battle and this time we can expect nothing less.

Despite two round 11 losses causing the Fire’s chances of finishing in the top four on the ladder now slim, Townsville always prove strong performers against the Boomers.

The Boomers will need to stay focussed and execute at both ends of the court to make a winning impact.

Pace and flow will hold the key at the offensive end but not without focus on finishing our plays off.

Defensively, limiting Fire players such as Mia Murray and Nadeen Payne at the perimeter will be essential.

The Fire almost certainly feel the loss of guard Lauren Nicholson, who is sitting out the game due to injury sustained last Saturday against the UC Capitals.

We will have the home-court advantage for the second of our two games back at SBC and some of the best supporters in the league to back us up.

Boomers will need to stay focussed, as we currently sit 4th on the ladder. Prior to tonight, this was at the exact same winning percentage as 3rd placed Adelaide, who have since secured another win in their game against Bendigo this evening.
