KARAITIANA OPTS TO SIT OUT WNBL 21-22

New Zealand Sky Sport Tall Fern and Deakin Melbourne Boomers guard has made the decision to sit out the WNBL 21-22 season.

Following an intensive FIBA Asia Cup, played in Jordan, and two-weeks of quarantine, Karaitiana made the decision to return to Queensland to be with her family – partner Matt, and daughter, 2-year-old Kalea.

“If was a very difficult decision, and one that wasn’t taken lightly”, said Karaitiana.

With a lot of uncertainty, I just couldn’t whole-heartedly fully commit for the season ahead. It wouldn’t have been fair on myself, or my team-mates.

I’ve been playing basketball for 20-years straight, and decided that now is the time to take a break, not only for myself, but for my family as well.

At this time, I am not considering this as a retirement announcement, just an opportunity to rest and rejuvenate.

I’m incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received from the Boomers, particular Guy, and I’ll be supporting the team throughout the season.”

Boomers General Manager, Christy Collier-Hill, shared her thoughts.

“While we would have loved for Ash to play another season with us, we’ve worked through this decision with her, and are fully supportive. All at the Club wish Ash and her family all the very best.”
