RISING STAR JOINS BOOMERS

May 31, 2021 | Melbourne Boomers news

At just 20 years old, Lily Scanlon is a WNBL Champion, a US College Conference Champion, and now a Deakin Melbourne Boomer.

Scanlon has returned home to Victoria and signed with the Deakin Melbourne Boomers for the WNBL 2021-22 season.

Scanlon is no stranger to the Boomers, playing her juniors at Bulleen Boomers. She then accepted a scholarship to the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, during which time she represented Australia on multiple occasions and led the Under 19 team to a Silver Medal at the FIBA World Cup.

A winner wherever she goes, Scanlon was a WNBL Champion with the Canberra Capitals in WNBL 19-20 and in 2021 West Coast Conference Champion with Gonzaga University in America.

Scanlon, a natural born leader on the court, is sure to be an instant fan favourite as she leads from the front in the Boomers purple.

Having been a champion junior for the Bulleen Boomers, Scanlon said the choice to sign for the Boomers was easy, ‘after having some great conversations with Guy [Molloy] upon returning from college I knew that this was the right place for me.’

A passionate Melburnian, Scanlon is most looking forward to being in front of the Boomers home crowd, ‘having played all of my juniors in Melbourne, It will be great to be back playing in front of family and friends.’

Deakin Melbourne Boomers Head Coach Guy Molloy is excited to see what Lily can bring to the Boomers team this season: ‘Lily is a pure talent and a natural winner. She is going to add another dimension to our game in 2021, I am really excited to see her out on the court.’
