Sense Of Excitement As Melbourne’s Fan Base Grows

July 19, 2017 | Melbourne Boomers news
Following unprecedented growth in crowd numbers over the last two seasons, the Deakin Melbourne Boomers expect to reach record levels this season as Melbourne's huge basketball community continues to get behind its WNBL team. In a city known for loving sport, the Boomers' recruitment of homegrown stars Liz Cambage, Jenna O'Hea and Louella Tomlinson for the coming season has seen an exciting response as new members sign up to secure their seats to see the stars in action at the State Basketball Centre. "Both Liz and Jenna haven't played in the league for a few years now, so there's a real sense of excitement that basketball fans will be able to see them play on home soil in their home city," said Boomers GM, Justin Nelson, adding "I know so many local fans are also really happy to see Lou back home in Melbourne playing in the WNBL." "We're encouraging everyone to make sure they grab a membership to help ensure they'll secure a seat and see some of the best Australian talent in action." "Liz in particular is a generational player, she is a globally elite player that everyone involved in the game has to get along and watch, and support. It's going to be a lot of fun seeing so many kids coming out and watching the WNBL." Full season memberships start from just $39 for juniors and include entry to all regular season home games. All memberships are availableÊHERE. In other Boomers news, all eyes are on international basketball over the coming fortnight with Maddie Garrick (Opals), Monique Conti (Gems), Kalani Purcell (Tall Ferns) and Rebecca Ott (Tall Ferns) all involved in FIBA action. "It's really exciting to have four of our players involved in big international action, we'll be following them all and know they will be giving their all. Yet again it (international basketball) highlights how many elite-level players we have here in Australia and also in the WNBL," added Nelson.
