Young talent selected in the Boomers WNBL Academy squad

October 4, 2019 | Melbourne Boomers news

Over the past couple of months, the Deakin Melbourne Boomers have held tryouts and training sessions for the much anticipated Melbourne Boomers WNBL Academy. The WNBL Academy is a pathway for elite junior players who are looking to pursue a professional basketball career. Throughout the WNBL season, these 15 young players will receive first-class coaching from the WNBL Academy Head Coach, Larissa Anderson. Larissa has a wealth of WNBL experience and will provide the athletes with fantastic leadership. Supporting Larissa in the coaching of the Academy program will be Boomers Head Coach Guy Molloy, Assistant Coaches Paul Flynn and Kennedy Kereama, as well as the Senior Boomers WNBL players.

We are pleased to announce that the members of the Melbourne Boomers WNBL Academy for season 2019/20 are:

Abbey-Lee Wood

Hannah Giddey

Lara Edmanson

Last-Tear Poa

We would like to congratulate these players on being selected as part of the Boomers WNBL Academy program. This is a fantastic opportunity for all 15 of these young, exciting players to develop their basketball in an elite environment. In addition to the world-class coaching support, these players will also have access to expert advice in nutrition, strength and conditioning and more. When possible, the Academy squad will also complete training sessions with the Senior Boomers team. On several occasions, the Academy will also play some friendly matches against other Academy teams, for example, the Bendigo Spirit Academy. With opportunities like this, there is no doubt that we will be seeing these Academy players coming through the WNBL ranks in the coming years.

Once again, congratulations to all of the players selected as part of the Boomers WNBL Academy – we are delighted to have you on board as a part of our club. It’s exciting to see the talent coming through in our junior basketballers. We look forward to bringing you news of their activities and development over the course of the 2019/20 Season.
