Incredible 2017/18 Lynx season draws to a close

January 10, 2018 | Perth Lynx news

The Perth Lynx have bowed out of the WNBL Finals, after a heartbreaking defeat at the hands of the Melbourne Boomers.

The Lynx and Boomers traded blows throughout the game, both teams enjoying scoring streaks, but Melbourne were too strong in the fourth quarter, and held off the Lynx to run away with the result, 69-78.

Courtney Williams tallied 20 points and 12 rebounds, Kayla Standish was effective at both ends of the court with 17 points, and Sami Whitcomb was at her fearless best, consistently putting her body on the line for her team and adding 15 points of her own.

The loss draws a remarkable season for the Perth Lynx to a close.

After starting the season 0-3, then 1-4, the Lynx delivered one of the most impressive turnarounds imaginable, rattling off 14 consecutive wins to secure the best record in the WNBL.

The Red Army continued to support the Lynx to the very end, breaking the club’s ticket sales record in tonight’s Semi-Final.

While it was not to be this season, 2017/18 will be remembered as an incredible, record-breaking season for the club.
