Lynx stifle Spirit to claim first road victory

November 17, 2017 | Perth Lynx news

The Perth Lynx have extended their winning streak to four games and claimed their first away victory of the season after defeating the Bendigo Spirit, 83-59.

In one of the true team efforts of the season, four Lynx players scored in double figures, as the visitors used a 16-0 run in the second half to race away from their hosts.

The determination and hustle of the travelling Lynx set the tone early, with the team recording a season high 52 rebounds (including 22 offensive boards) while holding Bendigo to just 33 per cent shooting.

Sami Whitcomb paced the Lynx with 22 points and four assists, Alex Ciabattoni tallied 15 points off the bench and Amanda Dowe pulled down a career high 12 rebounds, in an impressive result with contributions across the board.

Courtney Williams had a hand in everything, tallying 11 points, six assists and five rebounds, Alice Kunek added 11 points and nine boards while Olivia Thompson scored nine points to go with her nine rebounds.

With the win, Perth have claimed the season series tiebreaker over Bendigo, 2-1.

Importantly, no player was on court for longer than 28 minutes, which could be critical in two days time when the team faces the Sydney Uni Flames.

The team must now return to Perth and regroup ahead of Sunday’s 1pm clash with the Flames, where they will hope to extend their winning streak to five.
