Morrell rewarded with elevation to main roster
Teige Morrell has been rewarded with elevation to Perth Lynx’s main roster for 2024-25 after impressing as a Development Player last season.
After being signed by the Lynx as a DP last season, Morrell ended up playing seven games as Aari McDonald’s injury replacement when the star import sustained a knee injury.
She averaged 4.9 points per game in 2023-24 before a dominant MVP-winning campaign with Lakeside in the NBL1 West.
The Dubai-born, US-raised Morrell averaged 23 points and 14 rebounds per game for the Lightning to become the first player in NBL1 history to win MVP awards in two different conferences.
The 28-year-old forward said she was excited for the opportunity and wouldn’t want to play anywhere else as the Lynx look to go one better after last season’s grand final appearance.
“I am beyond excited to be joining the Lynx as a fully-rostered player this year,” Morrell said.
“Last season was an incredible experience learning under coach Ryan (Petrik) and being surrounded by an amazingly talented and fun group of girls who got so close to a championship.
“This is the place I knew I wanted to be.
“I can’t wait to get back at it again and help the team in any way I can as we pursue a championship this year.
“Lynx family, let’s make some noise!”
Lynx head coach Petrik backed Morrell to have an instant impact when called upon in 2024-25 after expanding her game during the off-season.
“Teige spent all last season training with us, and stepping into the team for us when Aari went down injured. And when she did get to play, she more than held her own,” Petrik said.
“Teige has continued to expand her game in the off-season, and we’ve seen plenty to know she’s able to make an immediate impact for us.”
