Paris-bound Wilson joins Lynx in massive coup
Perth Lynx’s roster has been further strengthened with the signing of Paris Olympics-bound star Ally Wilson.
The speedy guard joins the reigning WNBL grand finalists from Bendigo Spirit, where she played the past three WNBL seasons.
Wilson averaged 12.1 points, five assists and 4.8 rebounds per game last season and is currently preparing for her Olympic Games debut with the Gangurrus 3×3 team.
The 30-year-old has a wealth of experience, winning two WNBL titles at Townsville (2014-15) and Sydney (2016-17) to go with the competition’s Rookie of the Year gong back in 2014.
She will team up with Australian teammate and Lynx captain Anneli Maley, whose re-signing was announced last week.
“I am so excited to be play for the Perth Lynx,” Wilson said.
“The club has been highly successful in recent years and I look forward to being a part of that.
“I have always admired the style of play and how Ryan (Petrik) coaches the program.
“I think it fits me as player down to the ground and it’s an environment I could thrive in. I look forward to getting over there and getting to work.”
Lynx general manager Samantha Macpherson was thrilled to secure Wilson’s signature and believes she will thrive at her new home.
“We are thrilled for Ally to join us in Perth this season,” Macpherson said.
“She is in career-best form and that shows through her selection in the 3×3 squad for the Paris Olympics.
“She plays a style that we envisage will thrive in our system and think she will add an exciting element to our team as we push for a championship.”
