The Perth Lynx will be well represented in international play, as this week’s off-season wrap takes us around the globe.
Fresh off an outstanding performance at the William Jones Cup, Toni Farnworth and her New Zealand Tall Ferns teammates continue to prepare for the FIBA Women’s Asian Cup later this month.
Farnworth started all five games for New Zealand at the Williams Jones Cup, averaging 7.6 points and 7.0 rebounds, while leading the team in assists (3.2 per game).
Meanwhile, Alice Kunek has been called up to the Australian Opals squad, as she too will represent her country at the FIBA Women’s Asian Cup.
Kunek also delivered in a big way for the Eltham Wildcats, scoring a massive 62 points and grabbing 16 boards across two games at the weekend.
It was another strong weekend of play for Olivia Thompson, who continued her fine play with the Forestville Eagles in a back-to-back.
Thompson opened the weekend with 22 points and eight rebounds on Saturday, before adding 27 points, nine rebounds and three steals on Sunday evening.
In the SBL, Natalie Burton tallied 11 points and six rebounds to help the Perry Lakes Hawks continued their terrific season with another victory.
Sami Whitcomb’s Seattle Storm enjoyed a key victory this week, defeating reigning the WNBA Champions Los Angeles Sparks 81-69.
Whitcomb added three points for the Storm, who will play one more week of WNBA action before hosting the league’s All-Star Week from July 22 onwards.
