Perth Lynx Preview – Home to Geelong United

December 23, 2024 | Perth Lynx news

The Perth Lynx will bring WNBL basketball back to HBF Stadium this Monday night on the high after handing the Bendigo Spirit a first loss of the season ahead of playing Geelong United for the first ever time.

The Lynx will be bringing back WNBL basketball to HBF Stadium for the first time since 1989 and it provides a chance for more local basketball fans to get out to support, and enjoy the exciting playing style the second-placed team is delivering.

The Lynx are playing a faster tempo, higher-scoring and more lethal shooting style of play than any other team in the WNBL and as a result it’s perfectly suited for a big crowd to celebrate the festive season by coming out to watch on Monday night.

Just two days out from Christmas provides the perfect chance for the Perth community to get behind the Lynx as they play host to Geelong at HBF Stadium with tip-off set for 6.30pm.

The Lynx come into the contest in second position on the WNBL table with an 8-3 record and with the chance to join the league-leading Bendigo Spirit on nine wins for the season with the victory against Geelong.

Perth returns home fresh off handing Bendigo its first loss of the WNBL season back on Thursday night when the Lynx prevailed 71-68 on the back of a performance full of heart and fighting spirit.

In the end, Ally Wilson delivered 20 points, five rebounds and two assists against her former team while Anneli Maley contributed 12 points, 16 boards and four assists, Mackenzie Clinch Hoycard 12 points and five rebounds, Laeticia Amihere 11 points and seven boards, and Amy Atwell 11 points.

It was a statement performance from the Lynx to show they can win games in different ways as they’ve now strung together two straight wins following losses to Bendigo and Sydney to improve to the 8-3 record.

Monday night’s game also is a historic occasion with the Lynx playing Geelong for the first ever time in the WNBL.

United have just entered the competition for the first time this season and in their 10th game of the 2024/25 campaign, they will be coming to Perth to play the Lynx for the first time.

United arrives with a 4-5 record to be knocking on the door of the top four in the WNBL as well having not played since a narrow home loss to the Flames by seven points last Saturday which was on the back of a heart stopping win against the Southside Flyers.

Geelong might be a new team but have a squad possessing plenty of familiar faces including now having added former Lynx forward, and multiple NBL1 West MVP and championship winner, Alex Sharp ahead of the trip to Perth.

Daniel Raber and Hannah Hank are also part of the Geelong team to have played in the NBL1 West while Jaz Shelley, Monique Conti and Keely Froling are familiar WNBL foes along with what they get from import Haley Jones.

All the signs point to a terrific contest to mark the return of WNBL basketball to HBF Stadium with the Lynx and United playing one another for the first ever time just to top things off close to Christmas.
